First, we don't believe that people go to heaven when they die, because that is what the Bible tells us. Our hope is in the resurrection and return of Christ to set up his Kingdom here on Earth. This is what the Bible teaches.
Second, it is a dangerous idea to believe that you can be "good" enough to deserve resurrection. We cannot ever be good enough, it is only through putting on Christ's example of a selfless life that we can be judged by his standard. God will judge your heart by it's dedication, and not by whether your failings are outweighed by your good deeds.
