#445091 James Hannam: Rediscovering the Science of the Middle Ages

Posted by br25 on 28 February 2013 - 08:55 AM in Theology

This is such a load of bologna. The author says that the germans conquered the roman empire, but he conveniently ignores HALF of europe, since they did not conquer the eastern roman empire, which lasted another 1000 years. And yet, science declined there just as much.

He says that the church succeeded in translating ancient greek texts. Oh wow. Except that the byzantines (eastern romans) would have had no need to translate them, since they spoke greek the whole time. What really happened was that certain controversial liberals within the church tried to scrounge around for whatever texts they could find that hadn't been burned by the christians over the centuries.

The scientists of the middle ages whom he mentioned were all scientists of the late middle ages, i.e. after the low point (darkest point) of the middle ages. Furthermore, they were terrified of being put on trial by the Inquisition for their ideas.

Very hard to belive the author has a degree for Oxford. You can evangelize all you want, but don't lie to do it.
