#447566 "Atonement for the flesh"

Posted by Jeremy on 07 April 2014 - 02:41 PM in Theology

I would be very interested in hearing what the well-read members of the Forum think about this.

I'm in discussion with a brother about certain aspects of the sacrifice of the Lord Jesus Christ, and he is giving to some occurrences of the word "sins" (plural) the meaning "human nature". This enables him to see in Heb. 5:3 and 7:27 Christ offering "for" his flesh. It's exactly the same idea as "atonement for nature".

My question is: when did Christadelphian brethren start using any of the following phrases?

  • Atone for the flesh
  • Atone for sin's flesh
  • Make atonement for the flesh
  • Make atonement for sin's flesh

Did brethren JT and RR ever use these phrases? If so, do Forum members know where?

Thanks for any guidance.
